The Hanna Health Centre is comprised of a 24-hour Emergency Department, a 17 bed Acute Care ward, and a 61 bed Long Term Care facility. The position is day shift Monday through Friday. Description: As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results. - Classification: Laboratory Assistant I - Union: HSAA FAC PROF/TECH - Unit and Program: Laboratory - Primary Location: Hanna Health Centre - Location Details: As Per Location - Multi-Site: Not Applicable - FTE: 0.80 - Posting End Date: 28-NOV-2024 - Temporary Employee Class: Temp P/T Benefits - Date Available: 08-DEC-2024 - Temporary End Date: 30-JUN-2025 - Hours per Shift: 7.75 - Length of Shift in weeks: 4 - Shifts per cycle: 16 - Shift Pattern: Days - Days Off: As Per Rotation - Minimum Salary: $23.72 - Maximum Salary: $29.56 - Vehicle Requirement: Driver's License, Vehicle Required Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications: Cardiology training and experience including ECG's and Holter Monitors. All blood collection procedures including: venipuncture, micropunctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics. Drivers License is required. Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 2 years experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Familiar with Clinitek Status. Recent experience with Muse and Cardioday. Recent and relevant experience with Epic Beaker. Current registration with CSMLS. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility.
