Currently, we are recruiting for Industrial Sewing Machine Operators and blanket closers in Leduc, AB.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Blanket Closer is responsible for the closing portion of sewing of custom removable thermal insulation covers. After receiving the fabric from cutting, the blanket closer is responsible for sewing the fabric together, following standard sewing practices and instructions from colleagues and supervisors.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in, and complies with, the workplace safety program
  • Leads by example in daily activities by ensuring production and quality standards are maintained at the highest level
  • Works within an environment of continuous improvement
  • Operates JUKI single needle lock stitch sewing machine, to join sections of blankets or other articles into finished products on a production basis
  • Ensures that all the required tools are available for use (e.g. scissors, knives, measuring devices etc.)
  • Records production data as required
  • Ensures a safe work environment by periodically cleaning sewing machine and shop area
  • Maintains assigned sewing machine and equipment
  • Trains new and existing members of our team in best practices, in order to improve our quality and productivity
  • Communicates production issues directly and immediately to the supervisor
  • Safety is everyone’s responsibility and you are responsible to look out for yourself and those around you

Education & Experience

  • Previous sewing experience is required
  • Experience using industrial sewing machine an asset
  • Experience sewing blankets is required
  • Experience closing blankets is required
  • Able to work in a target-oriented environment, and adjust priorities as work demands change

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Exposure to industrial shop environment
  • Ability to sit, lift, walk, climb, grasp, reach, crouch, pull, push and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Predominantly sitting, but standing and walking (while carrying loads) is also required
  • Exposure to noise, dust and fibre
  • PPE required in workshop: “Tyvek” type coveralls, gloves, safety glasses, mask and hearing protection.
