Operator, Water & Wastewater Level Iii

Reporting to the Team Lead, Water & Wastewater, the Operator, Water & Wastewater Level III position will be responsible for operating and maintaining the municipal water facilities, wastewater collection system, and drainage facilities for the City. We’re looking for a service focused individual who has excellent communication skills and always has safety top-of-mind.

What YOU’RE Responsible for :

  • Maintain and operate level III water distribution and level III wastewater collection systems, including potable water pump houses and sanitary lift stations
  • Assist in the completion of annual preventative maintenance programs such as hydrant flushing and repairs, valve exercising, manhole inspections
  • Participate in on-site development inspections such as watermain commissioning and CCC/FAC
  • Investigate and address concerns from residents, contractors, internal staff, and others
  • Provide coverage for Team Lead, Water and Wastewater and assume operator in charge duties, when required
  • Maintain Alberta Environment certification and other necessary training
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to residents
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Support and assist other service areas when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

What YOU Bring :

  • Water and Wastewater Technician Certificate (NAIT graduate or equivalent)
  • Minimum Level III Wastewater Collection Certificate & Level III Water Distribution Certificate from Alberta Environment
  • Other applicable training: Confined Space Certificate, H2S Alive Certificate, Standard Level C First Aid and CPR, and WHMIS
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • 5 years’ experience in a municipal background pertaining to infrastructure including water and sewer
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Environment water and wastewater operation and reporting regulations and experience in monthly and yearly reporting
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable safety related legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices
  • Experience with City works, or other service request tracking software is considered an asset
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical abilities, and problem-solving skills
  • Meet the shift requirements; that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position also requires participation in an on-call list and on-call rotation
  • Keep detailed, accurate records in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Meet the physical requirements, including lifting heavy equipment and materials up to 23 kilograms (50 lbs.), adhering to long periods of standing and sitting, working in all weather conditions, etc.
  • Provide a clean criminal record check
  • Provide a driver’s abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
  • Adhere to all safety standards and promote the organization’s health and safety program
  • Work and communicate effectively with the team, management, other city departments, and residents
