Overview : As an HVAC Shop Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations of our HVAC department by providing assistance with various tasks related to equipment maintenance, inventory management, and general shop operations. This position requires a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is eager to learn and contribute to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities : Equipment Maintenance and Repair :

  • Assist HVAC technicians in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, including cleaning coils, replacing filters, and lubricating moving parts.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment to identify issues or potential problems and report findings to senior technicians or supervisors.
  • Learn basic HVAC repair techniques and procedures under the guidance of experienced technicians to develop practical skills and knowledge.

Inventory Management :

  • Receive, organize, and maintain inventory of HVAC parts, tools, and supplies in the shop, ensuring accurate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Assist with inventory counts, audits, and reconciliation to track usage, identify discrepancies, and prevent stock shortages or overages.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers to place orders, track deliveries, and resolve any issues or discrepancies in a timely manner.

Shop Organization and Cleanup :

  • Keep the HVAC shop area clean, organized, and free of clutter, adhering to safety and sanitation standards at all times.
  • Dispose of waste materials, packaging, and hazardous substances in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and trash removal, to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Customer Service Support :

  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers and visitors who visit the HVAC shop, answering inquiries and directing them to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with technicians and other staff members to relay messages, coordinate schedules, and facilitate efficient workflow.
  • Assist with the preparation of service reports, work orders, and other documentation as needed to support customer service and administrative tasks.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or coursework in HVAC or related field is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a similar role, such as a shop assistant or maintenance technician, is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, as well as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

Working Conditions :

  • Work is primarily performed in an HVAC shop environment, which may involve exposure to temperature fluctuations, noise, and physical hazards.
  • May be required to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Flexible scheduling may be necessary to accommodate shop hours and project deadlines.
  • Part time position.
