The VP will lead the Business Development needs of the business while being responsible for the Operational integrity of the business such the HSE, financial and service performance targets are met. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with significant industry experience, particularly in environments that are growing both organically and through M&A activities. The candidate should be a strategic thinker, skilled in relationship building, with a passion for developing talent and driving business growth.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership and management of all rail/terminal operations, sales, and service locations in Canada.Participation in the Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the COO in Halifax.Development and execution of strategic growth plans, both short-term and long-term.Mentorship and development of operations leaders, fostering a strong company culture and enhancing Seaboard’s reputation as an employer.Ensuring top-notch HSE standards and customer serviceOversee rail yard operations nationwide, providing strategic direction to site managers.Hold accountability for the Profit & Loss performance of the business, both on a consolidated level and within individual operational units.Ensure rail yard management delivers safe, reliable, and professional rail services to customers and transport companies.Drive the rapid expansion of both existing and new rail facilities. Lead business development strategies and execute sales initiatives.Utilize the transport sales team to capture opportunities that align with growth strategies.Develop and maintain strong executive and local operations relationships with major railways like CN and CP to influence service levels and identify growth opportunities.Stay informed on all regulatory changes from entities such as Environment Canada, CN, Transportation Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, OH&S, TDG, etc.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of TDG regulations, product handling, and hazard management, particularly concerning liquid petroleum and chemical products.Ensure all required inspections and audits are conducted by management.Oversee the inspection of equipment to ensure compliance and re-certification within the required timeframe.Collaborate with Seaboard Safety HSE to ensure Seaboard Bulk Terminals' work procedures are sufficient.Propose and implement solutions to enhance both operational and financial performance.Be accountable for the HR, service, and HSE aspects of operations.Build and expand the business operations and sales teams in alignment with the company’s growth.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILEExperience15+ years of progressive operations experience in a trucking or rail business with at least 10 years in a people leadership and management capacity.Has experience of scaling a business, full P&L responsibility for all operating terminals and managing the costs of business while delivering on P&L targets.Demonstrated experience overseeing execution of global compliance frameworks which ensure compliance programs are well-integrated into the company’s operations and workforce.Strong business acumen and understanding of the end-to-end rail industry is required.Big picture orientation with ability to represent broader thinking.SkillsLead company integrations as required and provide evaluation expertise (pre-acquisition).Demonstrated skill in influencing and collaboration within and across organizations, at all organizational levels.Be a “champion” for more effective work processes and documented standard operating procedures lead the overall organizational development of the terminals operating teams through robust hiring practices, reliable performance management processes and thorough organizational planning.EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATIONSBachelor’s / University Degree is required, with preference in Logistics, Supply Chain or Business.
