Overview Vernon Paving, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking applications for anexperienced full-time seasonal Heavy Equipment Operatorfor the grade crew. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will maintain the operation of the equipment on a daily basis. Reporting to the Asphalt or Base Foreperson, the Heavy Equipment Operator will be required to inspect, maintain and operate the piece of equipment you operate. Currently, we are looking for a skid-steer operator, roller operator, and grader operator. We currently employ approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential and provincial asphalt paving markets. Vernon Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $33-$34/hr subject to the qualifications and experience. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the North Okanagan. Responsibilities: Safely operate and maneuver heavy machinery according to project requirements. Conduct pre-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition, reporting any defects or malfunctions. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks. Excavate, grade, and level construction sites, roadways, and other areas using heavy equipment to prepare for construction activities. Load and unload materials, debris, or equipment using appropriate machinery, ensuring proper weight distribution and safety protocols. Operate equipment with precision and control, adhering to safety guidelines and regulations to minimize accidents and damage. Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work schedules and ensure smooth project execution. Monitor and assess environmental conditions and terrain to adjust equipment operation as necessary to maintain safety and productivity. Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including equipment usage, fuel consumption, and work performed. Qualifications: Able to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment Extensive knowledge and experience operating various types of heavy machinery, with a strong understanding of their functions and capabilities. Proficient in interpreting project plans, blueprints, and specifications to effectively carry out assigned tasks. Sound understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation, ensuring a safe working environment. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and operate heavy machinery for extended periods in varying weather conditions. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, make minor repairs or report major malfunctions. Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and follow instructions accurately. Attention to detail and precision in equipment operation, ensuring accurate and efficient completion of assigned tasks. Flexibility and adaptability to work in different project environments and adapt to changing priorities or demands. Proven track record of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic, demonstrating commitment to meeting project deadlines and objectives.
