Turn-Key Communications is the leading Telecommunications contracting company in Northwestern Ontario. We are seeking a Telecommunications Line Forman at our Thunder Bay office. The Telecommunications Line Forman will support our Outside Plant Construction department as well as our Structured wiring, Locate and Buried Service Work divisions. Responsibilities

  • Oversee, provide direction and assist in the field with the day-to-day activities for multiple crews (2 or more crews or oversees a crew of 6 or more worked on a full-time regular basis).
  • Review all work orders and project documentation in preparation for the installation of telecommunications infrastructure
  • Review drawings prior to the start of installation to determine the required installation methods, tools and equipment.
  • Instruct crews on the project plan by outlining the order in which job procedures will be carried out
  • Coordinate with crew members to determine the equipment required for the project and ensure that materials and equipment have been scheduled and loaded for transport to the project site
  • Identify and provide training and assistance to crew to ensure the safe, efficient completion of work.
  • Prepare utility locate requests for each work order or project as required
  • Prepare billing associated with project including, but not limited to As-Builts and photographic documentation etc.
  • Accurate completion of safety and risk assessment documents
  • Ensure that all work is executed in accordance with Turn-Key’s Health & Safety policy including the proper use of personal safety equipment for all crew members
  • Liaise with client representatives, the general public, and operations management to prevent or resolve any issues
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with specifications and project drawings
  • Provide periodic coverage or assistance for emergency situations during and after normal business hours
  • Ensure vehicles assigned to crews are maintained properly and CVOR requirements are followed
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years previous experience in a similar role
  • Minimum of 1 year in a leadership position
  • High school diploma or relevant work experience
  • Excellent leadership, customer service and communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Valid G driver’s license with clean driving record (DZ License is preferred)
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 pounds)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions

Duties

String lines or install communications equipment using bucket trucks, or by climbing poles or ladders, or entering man holes, trenches, or crawl spaces.

  • Maintain tools or test equipment.
  • Climb ladders, poles (spurs) & work from a bucket truck
  • Dig trenches for underground wires or cables.
  • Fill and tamp holes, using cement, earth, and tamping devices.
  • Inspect or test lines or cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults or malfunctions.
  • Install equipment such as amplifiers or taps to maintain the strength of communications transmissions.
  • Lay underground cable directly in trenches or string it through conduits running through trenches.
  • Participate in the construction or removal of telecommunication strand & cable or associated support structures.
  • Pull cable through ducts by hand or with winches.
  • Pull up cable by hand from large reels mounted on trucks.
  • Set up service for customers, installing, connecting, testing, or adjusting equipment.
  • Splice cables, using hand tools, epoxy, or mechanical equipment.
  • String cables between structures and lines from poles or ducts and pull lines to proper tension.
  • Use a variety of construction equipment to complete installations.
  • DZ license or ability to obtain an asset

Salary : $35.00-$50.00 per hour
