Summary

Reporting to the VP, Strategy & Program Delivery, the Manager of Camp and Youth Leadership oversees Camp Stephens' operations and drives the growth of youth leadership programs within the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg. This individual will focus on strategic alignment with the organization's goals, enhancing teen and youth engagement, manage the camp budget, supervise the Camp Director and expand youth programs to foster community and leadership. They will also alternate between on-site camp duties and off-season youth programming in Winnipeg, building key partnerships with local organizations and First Nations communities to enrich the leadership development experience.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Set the strategic vision for Camp Stephens and the youth leadership development program, ensuring long-term growth, sustainability, and increased program impact.
  • Lead the reestablishment and growth of the youth leadership development program across all locations along with the development and oversight of camp and wilderness programs.
  • Champion a culture of safety and belonging in all programs.
  • Supervise the Camp Director, providing guidance, support, direction, and performance management.
  • Act as a key liaison between Camp Stephens, the leadership development program, and YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s broader strategic initiatives.

Program Development, Management, and Delivery

  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality camp programs, including spring outdoor center activities and summer camp sessions for children and youth ages 8-17.
  • Ensure the development of a comprehensive safety framework for all programs.
  • Conduct market assessments to identify new wilderness program opportunities for youth, women, and families.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations.

People & Culture

  • Ensure strong communication between Camp staff and YMCA-YWCA staff, parent and campers.
  • Mentor camp staff and leadership program facilitators, promoting professional development and leadership growth.
  • Supervise the recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of camp and youth program staff of seasonal employees (up to 80 staff).
  • Ensure that all staff adhere to workplace safety and health regulations and compliance with the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s Child Protection Program (CPP).

Operations and Administration

  • Manage the operational budget of Camp Stephens, ensuring financial sustainability through effective budgeting, purchasing, and resource allocation.
  • Administer payroll for camp staff and manage day-to-day office duties, including coordinating schedules, cabin placements, and communication strategies.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation & Leisure, Outdoor Education, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in leadership development program management.
  • Experience in risk management, program evaluation, and budget management.
  • Experience working with multiple partners/diverse settings to build relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities, with a focus on mentorship and professional development.
  • Expertise in creating inclusive and engaging program environments.
  • Ability to manage budgets, financial resources, and large seasonal staff teams effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety and health regulations and incident/injury reporting.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills, adaptable for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database platform.
