About the role The Strategic Policy Writer - Self-Government Branch will be responsible for leading creation of program documents and letters, Proposal & Grant writing, coordinating and leading program design, making recommendations that guide how inter-Branch or organization-wide programs and services are structured, delivered and measured. Manages the most complex policy issues, dealing with abstract concepts and operationalizing them to secure funding, develop programming, or address political, economic, environmental, cultural, social or demographic needs and opportunities. What you will be doing

  • Lead the development of positions, policies, proposals and programs based on political, economic, environmental, cultural, social, or demographic research and analysis and/or the evaluation of pilot projects
  • Utilize specialized knowledge to meet organizational demands, including the process of collection and analysis of data for annual reports, policies, procedures, systems design, and other data useful to identify needs and opportunities
  • Manage collaboration between policy analysts and others to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a position, policy or program
  • Collaborate with employees to facilitate successful implementation of new policies and programs
  • Direct the development and implementation of quality assessment strategies
  • Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations
  • Attend meetings with senior management, funders, elected officials and government and present where required.
  • Manage projects that have a strategic impact and/or long-term timeline
  • Oversee the promotion, tracking, and measuring of compliance with policy or program changes
  • Proactively deal with highly political, confidential and sensitive issues, with tact and discretion
  • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of issues
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with funding requirements by creating and implementing appropriate data collection, reporting, and/or record keeping processes
  • Assist with development, implementation and growth of new programs as needed
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned

Qualifications :

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong project coordination, including the design and implementation of project work-plans
  • Superior organization skills
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with mínimal supervision
  • 3-5 years of experience in a policy analyst (or comparable) position
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations
  • Demonstrated ability in policy and program development and evaluation
