Women’s Emergency Shelter Worker

POSITION TITLE : Women’s Emergency Shelter Worker

PROGRAM : Women’s Emergency Shelter Program

REPORTS TO : Shelter Program Coordinator

POSITION :Provide emergency shelter services to women and gender diverse people as per Housing First Guidelines, Service Agreement and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Minimum Post-Secondary education in a related field (Social Service Worker, Social Work, Mental Health and Addictions)
  • CPIC Clearance.
  • CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Prevention, CPR and First Aid, Suicide Intervention Training.
  • 1-year experience working with women and gender diverse people who face multiple barriers, such as poverty, isolation, discrimination, trauma, criminalization, mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness.
  • 1-year experience working with women in a residential setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience using HIFIS software.
  • Knowledge of Housing First Principles.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent recording and data collection skills.
  • Advanced oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Community relations, public education and collaborative skills.
  • Bilingualism considered an asset.
