Purpose

The Circulation Manager leads the customer facing aspects of operations at the Portage la Prairie Regional Library. They help ensure that the library is safe and well organized, while managing the staff and volunteers who perform front of house tasks. This person is resourceful, adaptable and has excellent communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility: manages front desk staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities :

  • Library Asset Management
  • Performs essential collection tasks
  • running reports
  • ordering
  • manages lost and overdue items
  • shelf management
  • Front counter
  • assign duties and ensure they are completed
  • keep front area neat and organized
  • provide proctoring services
  • handle money and floats
  • handle circulation problems and issues that arise with the Integrated Library System
  • Management
  • respond to queries and complaints in a compassionate manner
  • assign regular duties in collaboration with other managers
  • assign collection management tasks
  • plan and implement special projects
  • maintain confidentiality of staff and patrons
  • train staff and adapt or develop procedures as required
  • participate in the hiring process for new employees
  • handle escalated patron queries
  • enforce library policies, especially the Code of Conduct
  • ensure Incident Reports are completed in a timely fashion and the Director is notified of emergency situations

Qualifications :

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Proficient in the use of computers and POS systems
  • Familiarity with current technology trends
  • Ability to educate customers and staff in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to recommend effective services for the appropriate age group

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a post-secondary degree and/or a Library Technician’s diploma
  • Significant experience working in a library or customer service setting
  • Significant experience working with children and/or vulnerable persons

Education

  • Possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Working Conditions

Usual office environment. Frequent contact with the public. Moderate physical effort required including bending, lifting, handling of materials of moderate weight, pushing and pulling of carts, etc.

Job Types : Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $17.29 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
