In Class Assistant

Assistant needed for a child with minor special needs. An educational assistant will be helping the student successfully participate in all classroom activities and provide additional support and services at school to that student. Other responsibilities include assisting in implementing the curriculum one-on-one, monitoring the progress of each student, and reporting to other teachers. You may also coordinate with specialists, such as speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. Tasks would include escorting the child to the washroom, helping the child change into outdoor attire, motivating and encouraging gym participation, and escorting the child to classes outside the homeroom.

Would need a criminal background check

Qualifications and Skills: Friendly and warm demeanor yet possess the ability to be firm when necessary.

Experience working with children between the ages of 6-8

Able to redirect troubled behavior and help children stay on task

Providing feedback and assistance to teachers

Recognising signs of distress in children and offering reassurance

A responsible attitude

Helping children understand instructions, through repetition, re-phrasing or demonstrating.

Encouraging children to communicate with one another and with staff

Critical thinking and problem solving

CPR (preferred)

Educational assistant diploma and/or education in the field of childhood development or special education

Approximately 15-20 hours weekly
